Two young men, Tunde Komolafe and Grey Owolabi, charged with raping a 25-year-old woman were on Tuesday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused was arraigned before the Magistrate, Mr A.A. Adesanya, on a two-count charge of conspiracy and raping.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and were admitted to a bail of N350,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Komolafe, 29, a security guard and Owolabi, 32, a civil servant, both residents of No. 26, Adeojo St., Ikeja, Lagos,

According to the prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, the duo allegedly committed the offences on Aug. 8 at their residence.

He said that the accused conspired to rape a 25-year-old woman, one Miss Kehinde (surname withheld), in turns.

Nwosu said that the first accused, Komolafe, invited the complainant to his house to pick up a package claimed to have been sent to her by someone.

“Komolafe, who had been trying to date the complainant but she refused, conspired with his roommate, Owolabi, to commit felony.

“When the complainant came, Komolafe handed over the said package to her, but when she was about to leave, he locked the room.

“He ordered her to remove her clothes, she refused, the accused rush to his kitchen to bring knife, threatening to stab her.

“Kolawole pushed her onto his bed, forcefully removed her clothes and had sexual intercourse with her.

“After raping her, he seized her clothes and locked her inside,” he said.

The prosecutor said that Komolafe went outside and handed over the complainant’s clothes, underwear and key to the second accused, Owolabi.

“He told Owolabi to go inside and do likewise.
“The second accused went inside the room and also brought out knife threatened to stab the complainant with it if she refused to comply.

“The complainant shouted for help but none of the accused’s neighbours was at home to help.

“He also raped her, before releasing her underwear and clothes to her.

“When the complainant later got to her house and opened the said package, she found a junk of rubbish all wrapped up in it,” he said.

The offences, Nwosu said, contravened Sections 258 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, with Section 258 stipulating life imprisonment for convicted offenders.

The case was adjourned to March 1 for mention.
