Nigerian players made their ways to the finals of the annual Governor’s Cup this year, a feat that has eluded them in recent years. Mose Michael and Sarah Adegoke will be in action in both the Men’s and Women’s Singles finals.
The final pairings will see Michael of Nigeria taking on Mugabe of Uganda in the men’s event, while top seed Razafinmahatratra battles Adegoke of Nigeria in the Women’s Singles.
The Women’s Doubles final was won by the duo of Zarah Razafinmahatratra and Sarah Adegoke after they defeated the pair of Christie Agugbom and Blessing Samuel in straight sets of 6-2, 6-0.
In the Men’s Doubles, Takanyi Garanganga of Zimbabwe and Duncan Mugabe of Uganda walked over the duo of Clifford Enosoregbe and Daouda Ndiaye of Senegal, who complained of injury.
Michael and Adegoke were not only delights to watch since the 14th edition of the championship served off on Monday, but the Nigerian stars justified their places in the finals during the semi final matches played at the Lagos Lawn Tennis, Onikan on Friday.
Michael defeated compatriot Sunday Emmanuel in the first Men’s Singles game that ended 4-6, 6-3, 5-1 (retired), while Aanu Ayegbusi retired in the first set in her match against Adegoke when the result was still 4-6 against her.

Meanwhile, the Local Organising Committee, LOC, says the final matches on Saturday will be preceded by the Junior Tennis Clinic which holds from 7.30am to 1pm, while the final of the Women’s Singles starts immediately. The Men’s Singles final, which Governor Fashola and other dignitaries are expected to watch will round off the tournament.
