Emmanuel Emenike’s Brace Hands Nigeria 2-1 Win In Ethiopia

Ethiopia goalNigeria’s Super Eagles on Sunday defeated the Wayla Antelopes of Ethiopia 2-1 in the first leg, final qualifying playoff match of the Brazil 2014 World Cup in Addis Ababa.

Emmanuel Emenike’s brace handed Nigeria the maximum points, though the hosts scored first before Emenike rescued the Coach Stephen Keshi-led squad.

No goal was scored in the first half, but Ethiopia scored in the early minutes of the second half of the encounter. Emenike, who scored an equaliser shortly after Ethiopia’s goal, finished the job with a 90th minute goal from the penalty spot.

The away victory now put Nigeria in pole position to qualify for the World Cup, but the country’s celebration will have to wait till 16 November when the second leg is played in Nigeria.
