Elections, Governance & Youth Devt.

Hello sports fans round the globe, I’m back with this special article which is on the workability of elections, how they affect the youths and the future of our dear country, nay Africa as a whole.
The lifespan of a country is dependent of the youths and the importance of elections in a democratic set up is seen through the opportunity the citizens have, which is to pick leaders of their choices to represent them in governance structures such as the Parliament and other top offices.
The freedom to choose leaders in an atmosphere that allows participating individual contestant or political parties to sell their manifestos to attract voters is what distinguishes a democracy from a dictatorial government.
Elections are the most important part of the democratic process. In our democracy, elections perform three major functions:
1.Selection: elections help us to choose the people who will make our government policies.
2.Accountability: in theory, elections are the central means by which people are expected to hold the government accountable. Whether elections are allowed to really hold government officials accountable is another question.
3. Communications: elections allow citizens and elected officials to communicate, however crudely, with one another. By voting, we hope to at least communicate some of our preferences for government policy through our selection of leaders. Simultaneously, candidates, political parties, and interest groups hope to attract us to their causes.
Thus, elections are contests among a number of individuals and groups to shape government’s policy. How well elections work as instruments of democracy, whether the public benefit from the contests then depends on election rules and who participates.
Election manifesto is a vision and misssion of the contesting individuals and political parties that stand for upcoming elections. This is an agenda for future plans made by the individual or political parties with the voters. If any political party wins an election for example, such a party is bound to implement the pre-committed policies with the people.
Consequently, Manifesto is a paper written to explain what you’re all about, and why you believe that way, or what your plans or intentions are. A manifesto is a published verbal declaration of the intentions, motives, or views of the issuer, be it an individual, group, political party or government.
A manifesto usually accepts a previously published opinion or public consensus and/or promotes a new idea with prescriptive notions for carrying out changes, which should be made. It is often political or artistic in nature, but may present an individual’s life stance. If you develop a purpose and direct a statement for your life, it would be a manifesto.
Does this manifesto carries a youth movement, development, structure and refurbishment of sports for the young & next generation? Do our youths have recreational centers? Sadly, in the rural areas, it is disappointing to note that many spots earlier earnmarked as recreational grounds have been sold for buildings. What our people fail to know is that change is the only factor that remains constant.
The youths is the lifespan of a community and a country. Explore the talents and gifts therein, and be a history maker. God bless Nigeria and African .
Join me again for another edition, till then, have a nice day and poke in some goals for now and the future.
