Ekiti United Lose First NNL Match

Ekiti United Football Club on Saturday lost their Nigeria National League, NNL, first match 1-0 to Akwa Starlets at the Uyo township Stadium.
The Ekiti State pet club took off on an attacking note, trying to outwit their hosts but Akwa Starlets showed class and dominated the match with their deft touches.
The Uyo-based Starlets terrorised the defence of their guests from the blast of the whistle, but goalkeeper Clement Anthony of Ekiti United deny them an early goal.
The match ended 0-0 at the end of first half, but Philips Johnson scored the decisive winner for Akwa Starlets in the 83rd minute, as the home side went away with a lone goal victory.
Dennis Nya, who played for Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Club in the UAE, was outstanding for Ekiti United, while Oladipupo Oladotun also of Ekiti United was selected as Man Of The Match for doing a yeoman’s job in Uyo.
Also on day one of the 2013-2014 NNL season, Mighty Jets of Jos spanked Spotlight Football Club 3-0, while Bendel Insurance defeated First Bank of Lagos by a lone goal in Benin.
It was gathered that the encounter between Jigawa Golden Stars and Wikki Tourists was abandoned with the visitors leading by 1-0 after 84 minutes.
