Ebenezer Osamo –
Vice President, Confederation of African Tennis, Yemi Owoseni, has said that the proposed tennis tournament which will be hosted by Ekiti State, will be a ranking tournament in the country.
The immediate past first Vice President of Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, also told eyeonthesports.com that the tourney will help the players’ fitness level and further expose them to championships.
“We have discovered that our players do not have enough tennis tournaments throughout the year apart from the CBN Open and the Dala Championship, that has been quite worrisome for some time now.
“So we decided to get a tournament for them here in Ekiti, that will attract all the best players in the country which will also be used for national ranking”, he said.
The Chairman of the event’s Organising Committee further told our correspondent that, “the proposed name for the championship is ‘Ekiti State Governor’s All Nigeria Tennis Open’ and we hope to have it between 27 April and 4 May in Ekiti.
“Presently, the only sure sponsor for the tourney is the state government, while we are also working on getting ARON, Fountain, MIDAS Hotels and some other corporate bodies to sponsor the event.
“It will be an annual championship by the grace of God but we want to kick start this year and see how it goes”.
