The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Paul Orhii, was on Monday interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of corruption in office.
Orhii took over from the late Professor Dora Akunyili, whose tenure at the agency has remained a focal point in the country.
Orhii, according to sources, arrived at the EFCC headquarter in Abuja in the morning and was questioned for several hours.
The NAFDAC boss is facing serious allegations from an aggrieved former Finance Director of the agency, Ademola Mogbojuri, who also alleged persecution from Orhii.
For many weeks, the agency had taken to various platforms, including Facebook, to deny the allegations of financial misappropriation and looting of funds meant for the organisation.
He is alleged to have looted over N6 billion from the revenue generated from NAFDAC and that should have been paid into the Federation Account.
The NAFDAC boss, according to sources at the EFCC, was later allowed to return home and given a date to show up with some documents to back up his defence.
But the agency has denied that its boss was arrested by the EFCC. Instead, it said Orhii only visited the agency on a normal routine level.
