.Dr. Tijani Yusuf: shocked at the death of Akosa and Akoja. –
Former Secretary General of Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Tijani Yusuf says he was shocked at the death of two prominent sports administrators; Austin Akosa, a former CAF instructor and Olu Akoja, a Deputy Director of the Federations and Elite Athletes Department of the National Sports Commission.
Eyeonthenews.com gathered that Akosa, a seasoned football administrator and one time boss of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association died recently after an ill-health in Lagos, while Akoja died last Friday after a surgery at the National Hospital, Abuja.
While commiserating with families of the late Akosa and Akoja, Dr. Yusuf, who is now a Lecturer in the Physical & Health Education Department of Bayero University in Kano, said Nigeria has lost two good technocrats who will be missed in the country’s sports administration.
In an interview with eyeonthenews.com, Dr. Yusuf said: I’m shocked at the death of Akosa and Akoja. These were two men who played prominent roles in Nigeria’s sports and performed brilliantly well.
“I’m really sad about the development, the deaths of Akosa and Akoja will leave big holes in our sports. Akosa was a very talented man during his lifetime. I can recollect how he finished as the best instructor during a seminar we both attended at the Gambia back in 2007.
“And, before Akoja’s death, he was a hard working man in the National Sports Commission but such an administrator who has a very bright future has been snatched away by the cold hands of death.
“My prayer is for God to console their various constituencies and the families that Akosa and Akoja left behind. May their souls rest in peace”, Dr. Yusuf said.
