Develop Sports, AFN Boss Tells Corporate Nigeria

Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN President and Publisher of SportsDay group of Newspapers, Chief Solomon Ogba, has admonished the Corporate Nigeria on its responsibility towards sports development in the country.
Ogba, who was for eight years the Sports Commissioner in Nigeria’s number one sports state, Delta, was reacting to the Golden Eaglets victory at the World Cup held in United Arab Emirates, UAE.
He said it is not only when teams win tournaments that the companies should roll out the drums to celebrate them.
“The corporate Nigeria must take its responsibility from the beginning and support the country’s teams and sponsor events at all levels, thereby investing in the youths of the country, who will be future champions of the world.
“The companies must not wait for victories to be achieved before they start putting adverts in the media to celebrate the teams.
“Now is the time to back all the teams and events in Nigeria, and I’m sure we have responsible corporate citizens to do that in Nigeria at the moment”, he reminded the corporate concerns in the country.
The AFN boss says the victory of the Eaglets at the U-17 World Cup underlines the potentials of an average Nigerian sportsman, if given the chance to excel.
He noted that the collective weight of the NSC Chairman, Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi, NSC Director General, Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye and NFF President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, has brought in a new season of unity in the administration of sports in the country.
“My advise to them is that they must remain focused, united and ready to push Nigerian sports to the highest level, because from what I have seen, they have what it takes to get to the height of sports in the country and globally.
