The Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has dissolved the 20-year-old marriage between a 35-year-old woman, Mrs. Sekinat Adeleke a plank seller in Ibadan and her busband Mr. Muideen Adeleke.

The Court granted Sekinatu Adeleke’s wish, after she approached the Court for the annulment of their union of 20 years that has produced four children.

Before the dissolution, Sekinat Adeleke described her husband as a beast and an irresponsible fellow.

“He beats and strips me naked anywhere he feels like, sometimes on the street”, she said.

She however urged the court to hold his husband responsible for the upkeep of their children.

Reacting, her 40-year-old husband, Muideen Adeleke was dramatic in
court as he requested to swear with iron (ogun), saying he believes in the god ofthunder.

Adeleke’s request to swear by iron was granted by the Court and he declared to the Court that he is not the father of their four children, asking the Court to grant his wife’s wish by dissolving the marriage.

“My wife is a prostitute, she sleeps with men around in our neibouhood. She has been caught red-handed on several occasions”, the business man told the Court.

After listening to both parties, the Court President Chief Odunade Ademola dissolved the marriage and told both parties to go their separate ways.

The Court also instructed the husband, Mr Adeleke to be paying the sum of N5,000 every month for the upkeep of the youngest child.
