CHAN: Eagles Beat Mozambique 4-2

Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Wednesday night, won their first match at South Africa 2014 African Nations Championship, CHAN, as they defeated Mozambique 4-2 in their second Group A match played in Cape Town.
Kano Pillars jewel, Rabiu Ali scored twice for the Nigerian side, while Ifeanyi Ede and Barnabas Imenger were also on target for the Eagles.
Dario Khan and Diogo scored the two goals which did little to help the home-bound Mozambique side.
Mozambique’s national team, popularly known as the Mambas rattled the Nigerian team with an early goal in the 10th minute, when Khan’s free kick from outside the centre circle caught goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim napping.
The Eagles equalised barely a minute when an unmarked Ede tucked the ball in from the six-yard box. The Nigerians shot into the lead in the 13th minute, when Ali beat Soarito with a powerful strike around the 18 yard box.
The Nigeria goalkeeper, whose fitness was suspect on the night, however gifted Mozambique an equaliser in the 20th minute when he came out to stop a pass from Maninho, but he failed to get to the ball, as Diogo tapped into an empty net.
Nigeria and their opponents ended the first half 2-2, before the Eagles finshed the encounter strongly with two second half goals.
Mozambique captain, Khan handled the ball inside the box, and Ali score the resultant penalty kick (his second goal) to shoot Nigeria into 3-2 lead in the 54th minute of the match.
Nigeria came close to scoring again in the 75th minute, but Gbolahan Salami’s shot was stopped by Miro. Imenger however completed the six-goal thriller when he chipped the ball over goalkeeper Soarito for the Eagles’ fourth goal.
The Eagles now have three points and in third position behind South Africa and Mali, who have four points apiece, while Mozambique are last in the group with no point.
