Eyeonthenews.com has gathered that a 35-year-old businessman, Bode Ige, has allegedly raped his facebook lover on their first date.
Our correspondent was at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 9 March, 2017, where Bode Ige was arraigned for raping his ‘internet lover’ on the very first day they met.
Bode Ige, a resident of Olorunisola Street, Ayobo in Lagos State, Nigeria, was however released on a N200,000 bail after he entered a `not-guilty’ plea to the charge of rape and conspiracy.
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, also asked the accused to produce two sureties as part of the bail condition.
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Essien Ndarake, the accused committed the offences on March 1, at a hotel in Oshodi, Lagos.
He said that the accused and one other person conspired to rape a 19-year-old woman whom he met on social media.
“Ige met the woman, a student of Abia State University, on facebook and lied to her that he is a councillor in Lagos.
“The accused invited her to Lagos, promising to foot her transport and other bills,” he said.
Ndarake said that the accused also conspired with the yet-to-be apprehended accomplice to pose as his Personal Assistant and took the girl to the hotel room that was booked for her.
“The accomplice led her to the accused’s room where he planned to rape her,” he added.
The prosecutor said that accused later came into the room and sat beside the complainant, touching her. The accused was touching the complainant all over her body and she was resisting, the accused carried her into the bed.
“He forcefully tore her clothes and pant in order to have free access. When she realised that the accused had overpowered her, she screamed but unfortunately her voice was not loud enough.
“The accused forcefully inserted his manhood into her vaginal and raped her,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, it was one of the staff of the hotel that gave the complainant clothes to wear after the incident.
The offences, Ndarake noted, contravened Sections 258 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 258 carries a life jail term as penalty for rape.
The case was adjourned to March 27 for mention.
