President Muhammadu Buhari has demanded for a comprehensive report on the sale of Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), and Nigerian Mobile Telecommunication (Mtel).
It was gathered that Buhari will probe the sale of NITEL and Mtel, just as he has been urged to look into the challenges faced by the telecommunication companies, so as to enable them provide quality services to Nigerians.
Dr. Tunji Olaopa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications Technology, expressed concerns about the quality of service offered by telecom companies in Nigeria, while addressing newsmen at the state house.
Olaopa was at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to brief the President on his ministry’s activities.
He said “The President was also concerned about the quality of service by telecommunication operators.
“The President is very concerned about the whole issue of privatisation that is hindering the investments in the ICT infrastructure and that he will personally champion this.”
Olaopa also added that “The President talked about the potential of the ICT sector in generating employment.”
He also expressed optimism that President Buhari would look into the challenges faced by the telecommunication companies, so as to enable them provide quality services to Nigerians.
