Bayelsa Cruise On In Confed Cup

Nigeria’s Bayelsa United have qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs after defeating How Mine FC of Zimbabwe 2-0 at home on Saturday.
Bayelsa United, who lost the first leg 1-2 away to How Mine FC last weekend knocked their opponents out on 3-2 aggregate to progress to the next stage of the competition.
Both teams played a goalless first half, but Bayelsa took the lead against a very defensive How Mine through Jafar Buhari in the 57th minute.
How Mine however came out in search of an equaliser but their hope was dashed when Bayelsa United midfielder Azubuike Okechukwu scored the second goal two minutes from time to send their visitors out of the Confederation Cup.
Reportedly, the restart of the second half was delayed by about five minutes following an incident between fans of both clubs.
Bayelsa United, who reached the semi-finals of the same competition in 2009, will now face any of the losers from the CAF Champions League Round of the 16 games.
The draw will be made by CAF on Monday. The overall winners of this round will qualify for the mini-league stage of Caf Confederation Cup.
