Dolphins Football Club of Port Harcourt defender, Victor Babayaro is not happy he missed out on a land mark number of appearances for the Nigeria Premier League side.
At the start of the season, Babayaro who joined Dolphins in 2005 thought he would hit the landmark 300 appearances for the garden City club, until an injury stopped him in Yenagoa during the game against Nembe City.
“I really felt very disappointed. When I was told sometime during the season that I had already played 286 games for the club, I thought I would have easily made it to 300 because I play regularly and I was almost sure of at least 30 games in all competitions this season.
“That injury really hit me hard because I was few games away from making the three hundred game mark,” Babayaro said, adding that there is an attraction to Port Harcourt that has kept him at Dolphins since 2005.
“The fans love me and any time we win, we get something big from the government and these are reasons I decided to pitch tent with Dolphins since 2005.”
Dolphins Media Chief, China Acheru hinted that only two other players on record have played more games than Victor Babayaro at Dolphins.
According to Acheru, former captain, Ahmed Abdulrahman who is now the club’s secretary played 420 times for Dolphins in 14 seasons and Emah Godwin, the immediate past captain played 417 times for the team in 13 seasons.
