Aftermath of the suspension of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (Delta), thugs broke into the plenary of the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday morning and carted away the mace, the symbol of authority of the Red Chambers in Abuja.
The armed men stormed the Senate at about 11. 20am along with suspended Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and overpowered security agents.
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who presided in the absence of Senate President Bukola Saraki had to be calming down senators in the ensuing melee.
Meanwhile, pundits saw the theft of the Senate mace by suspected thugs as one masterminded and carried out with the connivance of security agencies and would have been sponsored by them as well.
The robbery was executed in the full glare of the lawmakers, journalists and other observers in the Senate Chamber of the National Assembly, and it was discovered that two of the 10 attackers identified themselves as police officers.
