A 53-year-old Muslim Cleric, Alhaji Bamidele Asimiyu has approached the Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, for the dissolution of their union of 32 years with four children.
I decided to divorce my wife because she has made life unbearable for me. Every time, she always forced me to do things for her, and she does so by threatening to kill herself with a knife if I don’t comply.
“It all started about 32 years ago when I courted her before eventually marrying her 8 years after.
She harbours different type of people in our house whenever I traveled, there was also a time she went to borrow money from some people and used our house as collateral”, Alhaji said.
He urged the Court to dissolve the union to avoid a sudden death to either of them.
Responding, the wife, Mrs. Yidat Asimiyu, a 43-year-old trader said “I don’t want the union dissolved because of our children, and I did not threaten my husband in any way.
It’s true I went to borrow money from some people which was paid by my husband”.
The Court President, Chief Olasunkanmi Agbaje adjourned the case for further hearing and asked both parties to bring their families and children on next adjourned date.
