Ajani Ibrahim terrorized Giwa FC, and put the fear of God in the experienced Nojeem Raji on his way to scoring twice and setting up one goal in Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) 3-0 rout of Giwa FC, npfl.ng reports.
Giwa FC arrived in Ibadan on the back of a reputation as one of the smoothest playing sides in the Glo Nigeria Premier League, and were looking to enhance that distinction in front of a full house at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan.
But the home side had other ideas, and immediately went on the offensive from the off. Ajani was proving a right handful, and forward Najeem Olukokun was fighting a bruising battle with the central defenders.
Such was 3SC’s dominance that it took almost a 25 minutes before goalkeeper Abubakar Adamu had anything to do.
By then, they were already in front.
Charles Henlong was dispossessed halfway inside his half, the ball was swept wide, then crossed back in for the arriving Ajani.
His initial effort was saved by Ojo, but the forward somehow contorted his body mid-air to bundle in an overhead kick.
Ten minutes before the break, he had his brace. Adeyinka Adedeji floated a free kick from the right channel to the far post, Wasiu Jimoh knocked the ball down and the lurking Ajani side footed into the roof of the net.
Five minutes later, it was 3-0 with Ajani turning provider. The forward looked to have drifted into an offside position as a looped ball came towards him. But the flag stayed down, and rightfully so, as Mbai Aminu strayed behind his teammates on the far side.
Ajani served in a delicious cross for Olukokun, who glanced in a perfect header.
Giwa FC attempted a second half come-back, but Ocheme Edoh and Gyang Amos were guilty of spurning gilt-edged opportunities.
Both sides finished the game with ten men after 3SC captain Izu Joseph and Giwa FC’s Jimmy Ambrose were expelled for violent conduct.
Giwa FC also had their assistant coach sent to the stands for unruly conduct on the line.
