Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress on Saturday dusted themselves from their quarter-final loss to Mozambique to decision Cote d’Ivoire 62-53 points in a classification match, and will meet another west African foes, Mali
on Sunday to decide who comes fifth in the 2013 Afrobasket, Nations Cup for Women in Maputo, Mozambique.
Playing in the same Group B earlier, Mali defeated the Nigerian ladies 78-45 points. After their five star performance against host Mozambique Friday, the Scott Nnaji-tutored side are set to stop the Malians today and remain the fifth best team in Africa. Nigeria has won the competitions thrice in the past.
Meanwhile the Pavilghaio do Maxaquene, venue of the competition erupted with wild jubilation from the home fans for the second time in two days yesterday, as Mozambique stopped Cameroon from advancing to the final.
The Cameroonians ran away with a 14-point lead in the first quarter at 23-9 but Mozambique fought back to win the second, third and fourth quarters at 15-14, 13-8 and 22-12 points respectively to pick the final ticket with 61-57 points.
Angola battled Senegal in the second semi final.
