African, World Title Fights To Hold In Nigeria -Alumona

Continental and world boxing title fights will soon be staged in Nigeria. This is the conviction of Mr. Jenkins Alumona, Managing Director of Flykite Productions and promoter of GOtv Boxing Night, a professional boxing event holding on 23 November at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Lagos.

Alumona believes that GOtv Boxing Night, an initiative designed to reverse the flagging fortunes of boxing in Nigeria, can help attract African and world title fights to the country in the very near future.

In a chat with journalists in Lagos, Alumona said the dream of having continental and international fights staged in Nigeria is eminently achievable.

“Who says we can’t stage World and African title fights in Nigeria?  We have good professional boxers in the country, it will not be difficult to bring opponents from other countries and continents to fight them on home soil. That is what we are aiming for with GOtv Boxing Night and we are positive we will achieve it,” he said.

Alumona added that Flykite Productions is coming into boxing with strong organisational pedigree and will join hands with all stakeholders, including the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, to restore the glory of boxing in the country.

GOtv Boxing Night, which has been sanctioned by the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), will feature six fights in different weight categories.

The top bout on the card is the National Featherweight title duel between Dare “Fighting Machine” Oyewole and Waidi. There is also the Heavyweight bout featuring Adewale “Tiger” Abbey and Tope “Young” Ogunshakin. David ‘Lucky Boy’ Ekpeyong will take on Muhammed “Fearless” Tijani in the Featherweight category, while Chijioke “Painless” Nigige will slug it out with Sunday”Capo” Olalekan in the Middleweight category.

The Light Welterweight contest on the night will see Stanley “Edo Boy” Johnson fight Saheed “Happy Boy” Olayiwola, while Dele “Lagelu” Adeleke will fight Rasheed “Afonja Warrior” Abolaji in the Light Middleweight contest.

The event, which is sponsored by GOtv, Custodian Life Assurance Plc, 1960bet, Paragonis Multimedia Productions, KSquare Security and Zetaweb, will kick off at 5pm.
