Adamu Upsets Top Seed At Gov’s Cup

Nigerian player Sani Adamu upset number two seed, Dauda Ndiaye from Senegal in straight sets of 6-3, 6-2 to advance in the 2014 Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Tournament holding at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.
Same day, Paul Christian beat Etim Ekanem, 6-2, 7-5, John Otu lost 6-3, 2-6 and 7-5 to rookie, Tsawko Abubakar.
Unlike the number two seed who was knocked out of the invitational tournament, Number one seed Garanganga Takanyi from Zimbabwe defeated Bala Musa, 6-4, 6-4.
Abdulmumuni Babalola also overpowered newcomer Mohammed Mohammed, 6-3, 6-2, Monday Igbinovia defeated Ghana’s George Darko 7-6 (5), 6-4, while Moses Michael beat youngster Joseph Imeh, 7-5, 6-4 to complete the results in the Men’s Singles.
In the Women’s Singles, veteran Nigerian player Omotayo Ibrahim, out-stroked Ngozi Dirisu, 6-1, 6-4 while Osas Airhunwunde whipped Blessing Anuna 6-1, 6-4.
