Nigeria’s number one female tennis player, Abinu Fatimah will play no part in this year’s Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Open, eyeonthesports.com can report.
According to sources, the veteran tennis star left for the United States of America some months ago, and has not returned to the country ever since, an indication that she will not be in Lagos for the Etisalat Nigeria and FCMB-sponsored tourney.
Our sources further disclosed that the 2012 Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Open Women Champion has since gotten married and settled down with her hubby in the States.
“From what I know, Fatimah is not coming to Nigeria for the Governor’s Cup this year. She’s been away for some months now and has settled down after her marriage to her America-based hubby”, revealed our sources.
Abinu, who entered last year’s edition of the International Tennis Federation pro-circuit as Nigeria’s best female player, did not pose much threat to number one seed; Nina Bratchikova as the Russian player strolled past her 6-0, 6-1 in the first round.
Other female Nigerian tennis players who will seek to salvage Nigeria’s pride when the Championship serves off on 13 October include; 2013 CBN Open Champion, Ronke Akingbade; Blessing Samuel; and Adeyinka Elizabeth Thompson amongst others.
