.As Ex International, Ukadike Holds Talent Hunt –
The maiden edition of Abba Unity Champions League geared towards the discovery of hidden football talents will hold at Abba Central Stadium, Nwagele LGA of Imo State from Christmas Day, 25 December, 2013 to New Year day, 1 January, 2014.
The Public Relations Officer of AAC Sports Committee, Henrietta Ukaigwe told eyeonthesports.com that the youth tournament is being sponsored by an illustrious son of the community, Chief John Bosco Ozigbu, (Ogwuaga of Ogwuaga), the CEO of Grapik Ltd.
According to Henrietta Ukaigwe, the football competition is part of Chief Ozigbu’s deliberate efforts to empower the youth of the community.
Chief Ozigbu revealed that all the participants will smile home with cash rewards just as winners will be rewarded with trophies and valuable prizes among other mouth watering gifts.
The competition which is being organized by the Association of Abba Autonomous Communities, AAAC, Sports Committee headed by ex-international, Nicholas Ukadike is tailored towards the discovering of budding talents, who will replace retired players such as former Super Eagles and Enugu Rangers player, Edmund Ndukanma; Emma Oche and Charles Unaka of Progress Bank FC of Owerri and Vasco da Gama of Enugu respectively.
According to the Secretary of the association and FIFA Player Agent, Stanley Ndukanma; “Only young and talented footballers from the community are eligible to participate, as mercenaries are not allowed to take part in the competition”.
It was gathered that the draws will hold at the match venue, Abba Central Stadium, Nwagele LGA of Imo State before the tourney commences.
He disclosed that the participating teams are Abba Raiders of Lagos; aka Chelsea FC, Onitsha Branch; aka Real Madrid FC, Port Harcourt Team I; aka Arsenal FC and Aba Branch; aka Barcelona FC.
Also listed to feature in the tournament are Owerri Branch; aka Man United, Divine Eagles of Ogwuaga (Broussia Dortmund), Port Hacourt Team II (Bayern Munich) and Umuokpara United (Juventus) among other teams.
Meanwhile, Henrietta Ukaigwe hinted that scouts and top Nigerian coaches will attend the week-long football fiesta to pick talented players discovered during the competition.
