Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan defeated the hard fighting Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure in a Week 29 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match played at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex on Sunday.
The encounter was watched by almost a filled capacity stadium including the number one citizen Oyo State, Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who is watching the home team for the first time this season.
Ajimobi’s presence appeared to have put pressure on the Oluyole Warriors as they put all foot wrong early in the game. This led to Sunshine Stars’ first goal when the homers lost concentration in the defence in the 24th minute.
The goal however spurred the homers as they rose to the occasion, fighting for more ball possession. The renewed effort yielded fruit when Ajani Ibrahim was brought down in the box in the 30th minute.
The resultant penalty kick was perfectly converted by Sunday Adetunji to leave the score line at 1-1 after the half hour. The equaliser sent the home fans singing.
3SC continued with their good play, forcing a brilliant save by goalkeeper Olorunleke of Sunshine in the 39th minute.
Score line as at half time stood at 1-1, and the second half of the game resumed on a very high tempo with Sunday Adetunji missing a great opportunity inside the six yard.
As the match was about to end, Shooting Stars secured another spot kick when Ebitiimi Agogo was hacked down in the box, leading to their winning goal of the encounter.
