Angels Battle Amazons For Champions Cup

Rivers Angels will do battle with Nasarawa Amazons in the Champion of Champions’ Challenge on Thursday at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, Kogi State.
The Champion of Champions’ Challenge is an encounter between the teams in Pools A and B of the 2012/13 National Women’s Football competitions in Nigeria.
Being the last trophy of the 2012/13 season, the match automatically sets the tone for the coming season, as Nasarawa Amazons’ young side aim to knock down the reigning Federation Cup champions, Rivers Angels.
Rivers Angels will use the match to test their new signings such as midfielder Cecilia Nku, striker Loveth Ayila and defender Adeola Aminu, all from Bayelsa Queens.
Rivers Angels’ defender, Ugo Njoku is looking forward to her first game for the club and may be crowned as a champion after the clash.
For Amazons’ Ibijoke Sangonuga, the match offers the team another opportunity to play against the highly rated Rivers Angels.
“I think the style will be very similar. They like to retain the ball and keep possession, which is what they did when we played against them last season.
“They already have their own style of play and I think it will be the same with ours. Of course we are looking forward to the game, and we will do everything we can to win it”, the Falconets goalkeeper said.
