2 Jobless Men Rob, Rape Woman At Gun Point

Two unemployed men, Sodiq Oseni and Ayodele Samuel, who allegedly robbed and raped a woman at gun point were on Tuesday hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused were arraigned before the Magistrate, Mr A.A Adesanya, on a three count charge of conspiracy, stealing and rape.

The duo, Oseni, 25 and Samuel, 27, whose residential address were not stated, however, denied the charge and were admitted to a bail of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, the accused and one other person still at large committed the offences on March 6 at a house on Ogba Road, Agege, Lagos.

Nwosu said that the accused and another person yet to be apprehended robbed and raped a 39-year-old businesswoman, name withheld.

“The accused went to the complainant’s house around 11:00 p.m. to rob her of her possessions. They stole her gold necklace valued at N90,000, Samsung Galaxy X4 phone worth N47,000 and a cash of N35,000 total items stolen was N172,000.

“After collecting the items they wanted to rape her, the complainant refused and they threatening to shoot her with their gun if she refused to comply. For fear of unknown, the complainant obliged and they raped her in turns.

“Few seconds after living the complainant’s room, she raised an alarm which drew the attention of neighbours who gave the accused a hot chase. Two were arrested while one escaped with the stolen items,” he said.

The prosecutor said that it was discovered that the accused came with a toy gun to dispossess the complainant of her property and  rape her.

“A toy gun was recovered from the accused. The accused said that they used the toy gun to create fear in people so that they can surrender their belonging.

“They claimed that they are not rapists that the reason they raped the woman was because they met her sleeping naked,” he said.

The offences contravened sections 285, 409 and 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused may be jailed for life if found guilty of rape according to the provisions of Section 258.

The case was adjourned to March 29 for mention.
