.Solomon Tells Ikeja Magistrates Court –

A 29-year-old factory worker, Solomon Igbarase, has confessed to defiling an eight-year-old girl (name withheld).
He made the confession when he was hauled up before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on a charge of defilement.
The Magistrate, Mrs T. Akanni remanded Igbarase, who resides at Fashola Street, Agege, Lagos, in Kirikiri Prison pending his sentence at the next date of adjournment.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Idowu Ajayi, the accused committed the offence on March 21 at Ogba Road, Agege, Lagos.
He said that the accused defiled a eight-year-old girl inside her room.
“The accused who always come to visit his friend living in the same compound with the girl entered her room when she was doing her homework.
“He was penetrating his manhood into the girl’s private part, she was shouting, the accused covered her mouth with his hands and he had canal knowledge of her.
“When he was done, the girl started bleeding from her private part, she was crying, her cried alerted the neighbours who rushed to the room,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the neighbours locked the accused inside the complainant’s house so as not to escape.
“Neighbours locked the accused inside the room and called the girl’s mother asking her to rush home quickly as someone had raped her daughter.
“When the mother of the girl got home, she started crying as she saw her daughter bleeding heavily from her private part.
“A neighbour used hot water to clean and press the girl’s vagina before taking her to hospital.
“The girl’s mother rushed to the nearby Police Station to report the case and the accused was arrested,” he said.
The accused who confessed to the crime, attributing it to the handiwork of the devil, pleading for mercy.
“Please, have mercy on me, it is the devil work, I will never do it again,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Sections 139 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Section 139 prescribes life jail term as penalty for defilement.
The Magistrate fixed May 16, to sentence the accused.
