The 23-year-old marriage of Mr Jayeola Ajayi and his wife, Yemisi, may crash after the husband dragged his wife to an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve their union over infidelity and fraudulent behaviour.
Jayeola said his wife , with whom he had four children duped him of N4million.
“When l was transfered to Port- Harcourt for about three years for official duty, l sent money to my wife to buy a land and start to building our home.
“She always calls to ask for more money claiming she was building a giant house, I had to obtain a loan and sent to her. In fact, Yemisi sent me pictures of the supposed building and I was happy within me.
“Fortunately for me, I was transferred back to Lagos, though I did not inform her as I wanted to surprise her.
“When I came home, she was shocked to see me and started shaking as if I was a ghost. After a brief discussion, I asked her for the document of the land and asked her to take me to the location to behold the building, surprisingly, she could not, she started telling me stories,” the estranged man said at the Court.
The 57-year-old civil servant said he investigated the matter and discovered that his wife never bought a land let alone building on it.
“I later discovered that my wife was giving the money to her lover to process travelling documents for both of them to travel abroad.
“Unfortunately for my wife, her lover jilted her by travelling to Canada with another woman.
“My lord, if I had known that Yemisi would bring me so much sorrow and regret in life, I wouldn’t have married her in the first place.
“I will be retiring next year, I don’t even have a house of my own and Yemisi wants to turn me to a tenant for the rest of my life.
“As at today, I am yet to complete paying the loan I obtained for her fake house,” he said.
Jayeola further accused his wife of infidelity.
“For the few months that I came back to Lagos, my wife had been going to parties and fornicating with different men.
“The men pick and drop her at ungodly hours, so, I can no longer love such an adulterous woman.
“Recently, one of her male friends once called me on phone and told me to ask my wife who is the biological father of our last baby.
“In fact, I am still confused about that call,” he told the Court.
He begged the Court to dissolve the union that the love he once had for his wife had faded.
However, Yemisi denied all the allegations. She said that her husband sent N3.7million to her not N4million.
“My husband is lying, he only sent me N3.7million.
“I gave the money to a friend who is an estate agent for the purchase of a land but he duped me,” she said.
The 42-year-old trader said that she was not promiscuous that going to parties does not make her adulterous.
The mother of four begged the Court not to grant her husband’s wish for the dissolution of marriage that she was still in love with him.
The Court President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case to September 19 for judgment.
