Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan on Sunday defeated hard fighting Gombe United by two goals to one on Match Day 33 of the Nigerian Professional Football League.
After a colourless display by the two teams in the opening half of the encounter at Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, Ibadan, the second half started on a bright note when Musa Usman released a stunner from 23 yards in the 42nd minute.
The shot beat Adamu Abubarkar who was in goal for 3SC hands down but it brought out the best performance in the home team who later thrown everything into the game.
As the match moved on, Shooting Stars’ Seun Apeena was hacked down in the box in the 66th minute and the resultant penalty kick was cooly converted by skipper Seun Akinyemi to restore parity for his team.
After a series of attacks by the Oluyole Warriors, Nojeem Olukokun scored the second goal for 3SC in the 82nd minute off a rebounce from Sunday Faleye’s effort as the home side grabbed maximum points.
Speaking after the game, Gombe United Coach Manu Garba chides the officials for not being fair to his team but he promised to beat the drop with just five matches remaining this season.
Garba’s opposing number Edith Agoye described Shooting Stars’ victory as a reward for hard work put in by the players and officials.
