Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan continued their fight against relegation in the Nigeria Professional Football League, when they defeated high flying Akwa United 1-0 at Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, Ibadan on Sunday.
The encounter started on a pacy note, with the rampaging visitors pegging the homers back into their half in the early minutes of the game, thereby forcing 3SC goalkeeper Adamu Abubakar to make a one-on-one save in the 20th minute.
However, in the other half of pitch, Abu Azeez wasted what could have been the first goal of the game for the Stars in the 22nd minute when he was dispossesed of the ball in box 18 with only the goakeeper at his mercy.
The second half started as the first with both teams throwing everythig at each other. Abu Azeez was the culprit again as he wasted a couple of chances as the game goes into the last ten minutes.
The goal eventually came in the 38 minute of the second half when Akwa United defender handled the ball in the 18 yard box and the center referee from Kogi State pointed to the spot.
The resultant kick was cooly sloted in by Skipper Seun Akinyemi.
Speaking after the game 3sc Coach Edith Agoye attributes the victory to determination to survive the drop as they played against one of the best teams in the league, adding that they also have one of the the best coaches in the country.
Meanwhile, the head coach of Akwa United Abdul Maikaba refused to talk to the press after the game.
