School House of the International School University ISL, of Lagos, has won the Secondary School’s Inter-House Sports Competition for the first time in 25 years.
Amassing a total of 14 Gold, 11 Silver and 6 Bronze medals, the visibly delighted School House beat Congregation House, that finished second with 13 Gold, 15 Silver and 3 Bronze medals, while regular winners and 2012 Champions, Bursary House settled for third place with a total of 6 Gold, 10 Silver and 5 Bronze medals.
Principal of the School, Mrs. Adorah Ojo, in a chat with eyeonthesports.com, expressed her delight at the level of competition and the School’s records being shattered by one of the students, Emmanuel Obuh.
Commenting further, Mrs. Ojo stated that, “every year, we try to make things better. We never really planned to have the competition this year, but to have come out this good is something quite commendable.
“Exercise and sports should not be occasional, they should be regular practice. So having the kids come together for this exercise is something that will help them in all spheres of their lives.”
Chairman of the occasion, Barrister Fassy Adetokunboh Yusuf, in his address, explained that it is imperative for young minds to have such competitions.
The former Commissioner for Sports in Ogun State also said that the Inter-House Sports was necessary to build a competitive atmosphere, where the students can be together and catch fun while carrying out sporting activities.
The Head, Balrol Chambers added that, “it teaches team spirit, togetherness, competitiveness and relaxation of the mind and body. From the horizon, everything looked really exciting.
“The records that were broken also showed how strong the competition was here. One of the students already represented Lagos State, so you can see for yourself that this is a great avenue to breed future stars.”
The event, which took place at the Sports Centre of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Akoka in Lagos, also had in attendance, Dr. (Mrs.) T. F. Ipaye, UNILAG Registrar; Professor (Mrs.) Mopelola Omoegun, Chairman of the ISL Management Board; Tunji Sotimirin, veteran actor and lecturer at UNILAG, amongst other dignitaries.
