Health crisis befell Remo Stars Football Club on Saturday, 8 July, 2017 as players and officials were reported to have suffered from food poisoning less than 24 hours to their match Day 28 NPFL tie against Ifeanyi Ubah FC.
As at Saturday, 23 players and officials were being treated for food poisoning.
The lists of affected persons include 13 first team Remo Stars players with their leading scorer Victor Mbaoma, Ekene Awazie and Salefu Ochowe who are ill.
According to reports, the players began complaining of stomach pain and tiredness around 7pm after virtually the entire team fell ill including the officials Dahiru Ilu and media officer Oladimeji Oshode.
The affected players were then taken to Ikenne Health Center while the team doctor James is currently treating some players to ensure they recover from this health crisis.
Confirming the incident and current situation in the team, Club Secretary Micheal Onikute said: “It’s such a disastrous situation we have right now. We were prepared for the game against Ifeanyi Ubah and have had the players resting after dinner. They ate Semovita and Egusi soup, only for me to get a distress call that they are in pain. All I could think of was getting them to the hospital alonside the team Doctor.
