A 55 -year-old pastor, Abayomi Sanni, who allegedly raped a woman seeking for a baby was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday, reports eyeonthenews.com.
The accused was arraigned before the Magistrate, Mr J.A Adigun on a charge of rape.
Sanni, who resides at Abule-Egba, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to a bail of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said that one of the sureties must be a community leader and the other a religion leader and they should be gainfully employed, show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, the accused committed the offence on August 22 at his residence.
He said that the accused raped a barren woman who approached him for prayers for God to open her womb.
“The accused had sexual intercourse with the woman without her consent,” he said.
Awase said that the accused told the woman to come for deliverance and he had canal knowledge of her.
“The victim approached the accused for prayers in order for her to get pregnant after nine years of marriage. The accused told her that the witches in her village were responsible for her barrenness. He ordered her to come for deliverance, which she did
“On that fateful day, he told her to remove her trouser for him to cast out the evil the witches had placed on her tommy and she obeyed.
In the process of praying, he started romancing her, when the woman noticed that the accused wanted to sleep with her, she tried to run but the accused grabbed her and forcefully inserted his manhood inside her and had sex with her,” he said
According to the prosecutor, the victim reported to her husband and the accused was arrested. The offence contravened Sections 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The accused may be jailed for life if found guilty of rape according to the provisions of Section 260.
