It was a colourful welcome ceremony for new African champions, Super Falcons of Nigeria as they landed in Abuja on Tuesday.
A party led by NFF President Amaju Pinnick, including Director of Federations and Elite Athletes Department of NSC, Dr. Bolaji Ojo-Oba, NFF General Secretary Musa Amadu, Director of Technical Emmanuel Ikpeme, NSC top officials Caleb Gidado and Maria Whoophil with a number of other NFF officials received the contingent at a simple arrival ceremony at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, before the train moved to the National Stadium for a special welcome ceremony.
Sports Minister Tammy Danagogo praised the girls for their total dedication, energy, patriotism and excellent skills, while NFF President Pinnick pledged that the team will be given adequate preparation to stun the world at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
The 21 players and their officials, led by Head Coach Edwin Okon, appreciated the gesture by the Sports Minister, and commended the NFF for its full support, motivation and encouragement.
The players later presented a special enlarged photo of Mr. Pinnick to the NFF President, saying they are in love with his transformational programmes that will take Nigeria football to new heights.
