A 60-year-old landlord, Abudu Lasisi has allegedly raped his 25-year-old tenant in Lagos, Nigeria.
The accused, Lasisi, who resides at Palm Avenue in Mushin, Lagos, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to face trial.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, the accused committed the offence on June 8 at 10:30pm at his residence.
He said that the accused had canal knowledge of his 25-year-old tenant without her consent.
Ogu said that the accused who was the complainant’s landlord had given all his tenants quit notice in which all had packed except the complainant.
“The complainant who is yet to get an accommodation was sleeping in her room when the accused knocked under the pretext that he wanted to deliver a friend’s message to her.
“Immediately the complainant opened her door, the accused rushed in and told her that he wanted to make love to her.
“The complainant ordered him to leave her room but the accused pushed her on her bed and started tearing her undies,” Ogu said.
The prosecutor said that the complainant was shouting for help but could not get as the house was deserted.
“The complainant was shouting for help but help could not come as there was nobody in the house.
“The accused forcefully inserted his manhood into her vaginal,” the prosecutor said.
The offence, Ogu said, contravened section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised)
Section 260 prescribes life jail term as penalty for rape.
The Magistrate, Mrs T. Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties.
Akanni adjourned the case to June 26 for mention.
