Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs. Iara Oshiomhole has called on people of the state to imbibe the culture of regular hand washing in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Speaking at the 2015 Hand Washing Day organised by the EU and UNICEF in conjunction with the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources in Benin City, Mrs. Oshiomhole said regular hand washing is one of the surest ways to avoid infections, especially among school children.
While commending students of various schools in the state who participated in this year’s hand washing campaign exercise, she said “It is important to wash our hands even though it is clean and why it is so important is to prevent diseases. So you use soap and clean water to wash your hand.
“Now you know how we should wash our hand, when we should wash our hands and where to wash our hands and this exercise today has shown that you all know how to wash your hands the right way.”
The wife of the Governor monitored the demonstration of hand washing by some pupils and gifts were later presented to pupils and schools that participated at the exercise.
The State Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources, Mr. Washington Osifo who also addressed the student participants said regular hand washing is a sure way to avoid the dreaded Ebola disease.
