Mrs. Abiodun Akande, a 37-year-old beautician, has approached an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to terminate her three-year-old marriage over husband’s infidelity, eyeonthenews.com reports.
The petitioner said that her husband, Henry, impregnated another woman after two months that she married him.
“My husband impregnates another woman barely two-month I moved in with him. He brought the woman home to stay with us,” the estranged wife said.
She said that her husband had three wives which he did not tell her when they were dating that she got to know after their marriage.
“I discovered that he already had three wives living with him, there was nothing I could do since I was pregnant, so, I had to stay,” she said
The mother of one described her husband as a wife-beater.
“My first baby died in my womb through the beating I received from my husband,” the embittered wife said.
She begged the court to dissolve the marriage that she was fed up.
However, Mr. Henry Akande, said that his wife was fetish that he saw different pots of charms in her wardrobe.
“I believe that my persisted illness which has deferred medical solution was a result of her fetish acts. If I die today, Abiodun should be held responsible,” he said.
The respondent presented to the Court, pictures of those charms as evidence. According to him, his religion permits him to marry many wives, that his wife cannot dictate to him.
He said that he does not beat his wife regularly as she claimed, that he beat her only four times this year because she was stubborn.
“It was only four times that I beat her this year, I am not a wife- beater,” he said.
The 48-year-old businessman accused his wife of being a threat to his life.
“My wife always send her brothers to beat me up whenever we have a fight or have disagreement. There was a day I slapped her for calling my mother a witch, she then sent for her brothers who beat the hell out of me,” he said.
The respondent consented to the dissolution of the marriage that he was also fed up with the union.
The President of the Court, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, after listening to the estranged couple adjourned the case to July 25 for judgment.
