Uganda’s Edward Kakembo on Saturday, 26 December made good his promise to surprise Nigerians as he tortured home boy Waidi ‘Skoro’ Usman during the GOtv Boxing Night held at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

The Ugandan displayed an exemplary boxing skills as he dealt with Skoro in the 12 rounds African Boxing Union Featherweight Title bout.

Kakembo won the bout beating Skoro hands down in what looked like unanimous decision but the judges scored the visitor to have won via split decisions. Kakembo however realised his ambition to win the belt and present it as Christmas gift to fellow Ugandans.

The high point of the Boxing Day event was when Stanley ‘Edo Boy’ Eribo, emerged as boxer of the Gotv Boxing Night as he went home with the star prize of N1.5 million with the Mojisola Ogunsanya trophy.

Stanley Eribo defeated Sunday ‘Capo’ Olalekan by technical knockout in the 9th round to win the National Welterweight Title.

In the first bout of the night, Abolaji ‘Afonja Warriors’ Rasheed defeated Sunday ‘Golden Child’ Ajunwa by judges unanimous decision in super middleweight challenge.

Olaide ‘Fijaborn’ Fijabi also overpowered national champion, Sadiq Ahmed in the 4th round of their 12 rounds National Light Welterweight title bout. Fijaborn wowed the huge crowd with his fantastic boxing jabs and moves and kept the stands alive with the fans shouting his name ‘Fijaborn! Fijaborn!! till the bout ended.

Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, President General of Nigeria Football and Other Sports Supporters Club, Hon. Wale Edun, Chairman, Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame (LBHF), Hon. Ayodeji Joseph, Mr. Adewunmi Ogunsanya, Chairman Multichoice Nigeria and a host of other dignitaries witnessed the event.

Popular musician Daddy Showkey performed at the show while comedian Gbenga Adeyinka the 1st anchored the event as Master of Ceremony.

Jenkins Alumona, Managing Director of Flykite Productions and Bamidele Johnson led a team of organisers of the Boxing Night, as free Gotv decoders were distributed to the fans at the event sponsored by GOtv.
