The Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Open holding at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS in Lagos State, Nigeria, will formally end on Saturday, 26 October, 2013.
The ITF-approved championship, which served off last week, will end with the 2nd leg finals of both the Men’s and Women’s Singles this afternoon.
Former winner, Nina Bratchikova who defeated Naomi Broady of Great Britain in straight sets of 7-6, 6-4 in the semi final yesterday, will take on Italian player, Gioia Barbieri in the final of the Women’s Singles at 2pm. Gioia upset top seed, Tadeja Maeric in straight sets of 6-2, 6-1 in the other semi final on Friday.
In the Men’s final slated for 4pm, Ante Pavic of Croatia will exchange strokes with India’s Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan in the Men’s Singles final.
The tournament number 4 seed, Ante upset top seed, Hiroki Kondo of Japan in straight sets of 6-3, 6-2 in the first semi final played on Friday, while Jeevan defeated Andre Gaspar Murta of Portuga 6-1, 6-2 in the second semi final.
Meanwhile, the Women’s Doubles final was concluded on Friday, as the pair of Fatma Al Nabhani (Oma) and Gioia Barbieri (Italy) won the trophies and prize money, having out-stroked the pair of Conny Perrin of Switzerland and Chanel Simmonds from South Africa 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Also, the pair of Ante Pavic of Croatia and Ruan Roelofse of South Africa emerged winners of the Men’s Doubles trophy. They defeated the Croatian pair of Borna Coric and Dino Marcan in straight sets of 7-5, 6-3 in the final played Friday afternoon.
As expected, chief host of the tournament, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola is expected to grace the finals on Saturday, while the President of Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, Engineer Ndanusa and other dignitaries would witness the closing ceremony.
