.A disappointed Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, who won his 100th cap, yells as his teammates exposed him to concede a goal to Uganda’s Cranes in Uyo on Wednesday. –
What was expected to be a day of history and joy for goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama when he won his 100th cap for Nigeria on Wednesday, ended on a sad note, as visiting Cranes of Uganda defeated the Super Eagles 1-0 in an international match at Uyo Stadium.
Farouk Miya’s 82nd minute deflected shot in the International Friendly dented Enyeama’s credentials, as the Cranes of Uganda went away with the slim win on Nigeria’s soil once again.
It was Uganda’s 4th win against Nigeria, giving them an edge on head to head 4-1-3.
The Eagles, handled by Coach Daniel Amokachi played a disjointed game, while Uganda were the better side in Uyo.
Although, Odion Ihghalo, Anthony Ujah and Ahmed Musa played their hearts out, the visitors, who are 74th in FIFA Ranking had an upper hand and did not open their rear till the end.
Enyeama, however remained grateful to football loving Nigerians for supporting him to reach the milestone. He said: “I thank Nigerians and all those who have supported my career with the Eagles. It was disappointing that we lost to Uganda at home, but football is football anyway and that’s how it ends at times”.
Enyeama however received the award at half time and promised to continue doing his best for Nigeria.
The Eagles will battle the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the second friendly match in few days.
The teams are using the tune up matches to prepare for the next African Cup of Nations, AFCON and World Cup qualifying games.
