“One 56-year-old Pastor Mrs. Abosede Martins, has approached an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve her 30-year-old marriage over husband’s infidelity.
Abosede said her husband, Femi, on three occasions, tried to rape one of her church members, a 16-year-old ophan, who resides with her.
“There was a night my husband left me on our matrimonial bed and sneaked into the girl’s room, I saw him, he was naked and climbed the girl who was deep asleep on her own bed.
“When I caught him, he said he wanted to kill mosquito on the girl’s body and pleaded with me to forgive him.
“The girl however told me that my husband had attempted to rape her on three occasions whenever I went to church for special prayers at night.
“Also, a particular woman in my church told me that Femi approached her to be his concubine. The woman in question has threatened to stop coming to my church if my husband continues disturbing her.
“I never trusted him and cannot fold my hands and watch him destroy my church.
“My church members were almost 200 in number at a point, but due to Femi’s adulterous act, I hardly find 50 members attending any of my services these days,” she said.
The mother of four said that her husband was after her life.
“My husband always chase me with either knife or cutlass, attempting to kill me,” she said.
The petitioner said that her husband also has penchant for stealing.
“My husband is good at stealing, he steals the tithe and offering of my church.
“I have caught him on two occasions stealing the money and he begged me to forgive him,” the disturbed wife said.
She prayed the Court to terminate the marriage that she was no longer in love with her husband.
However, Femi, denied all the allegation levelled against him, saying he was not adulterous.
“I did not try to rape the girl that is living with us nor did I woo any of the women in my wife’s church,” he said.
The 58-year-old businessman said that he was only using the knife and cutlass to threaten her that he did not mean to hurt her.
He said that he never stole his wife’s money. The respondent begged the Court not to grant his wife’s wish for the dissolution of marriage that he was still in love with her.
The Court President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case to December 5 for further hearing.
