Basketball: Nigeria Clubs Lose Games At African Tourney

The clubs representing Nigeria at the 19th Africa Basketball Champions Cup for Women Club competition at the Salle Couverte Al Massira in Meknes, Morocco; First Deepwater and Dolphins lost their matches on Day 2 of the tournament.
2012 runners-up of the Africa Champions Cup for Women, Interclube Basketball Club of Angola Sunday evening dispatch Nigeria Women League champions, Deepwater by 65-39 points in a group-B tie of the biggest women club competition on the continent.
The Angolans won in all four quarters by 15-05, 15-11, 21-13 and 14-10 points to give a note of warning to other would-be title contenders in the absence of defending champions, Liga Desportivo Basketball Club of Mozambique.
Interclube was led in scoring by Angolan international swingman Astrida Vincente by 10 points and two rebounds.
Interclube who won the champions cup title back-to-back in 2010 and 2011 will confront I.R Tanger Basketball Club of Morocco at 20Hours on Monday, while First Deepwater Basketball Club take on Kenyan Eagle Wings Basketball Club at 16Hours same day.
In the other match, host of the Africa Champions Cup for Women Club tournament, Omnisports De Meknes, CODM Basketball Club of Morocco, also handed Dolphins Basketball Club of Nigeria an 80-73 points defeat in a thrilling game that kept the fans at the edge of their seats through the forty minutes duration of the group-A match-up.
CODM who now have a 1-1 record after losing their group opening game to Unites States International University basketball team of Kenya last Friday, shared the four quarters evenly with their Nigerian opponents; 25-27, 21-16, 15-19 and 19-11 to secure the crucial win.
CODM’s Senegalese import, Ramata Daou had a fantastic game in the first three quarters thus leading her team with a double figure of 28 points and 20 board, Hermine Ngueko also had a double of 22 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists, while forward Meryme Hamzaoui added 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assist for their side’s vital win.
USIU will file out against the winless Dolphins in both sides’ last group-A game on Monday at the Salle Couverte Al-Massira gymnasium at 14Hours, while CODM will have their hands full when they confront Primeiro D’Agosto at 18Hours.
